Georgia Indicates Its Growing Interest In Middle Corridor

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 26. Georgia sees the increasing role of the Trans-Caspian International transport Route (TITR), or the so-called Middle Corridor, Georgia's Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Levan Davitashvili said, Trend reports.

He has made the remark during the Silk Road Forum in Tbilisi.

"You know that Georgia effectively participates in various corridors, and the role of the Middle Corridor is growing as an alternative, reliable route, as well as the shortest route connecting Europe and Asia. We have been working on this for many years to enhance its efficiency. When we talk about connectivity, we are not only referring to transportation links; we are also discussing deepening economic ties, trade relations, investment opportunities, and cooperation in various economic sectors," he said.

In general, Georgia's role has increased not only in transport and logistics but also in many other industries, which is why the scope of activities of the companies coming to Georgia as part of the forum is very broad, Davitashvili remarked.

The official also noted that the interest in the forum has notably increased in 2023, indicating that Georgia's role in the region as a whole is growing.

"I very much hope that the forum will be successful and contribute to further popularizing Georgia. Important economic matters need to be discussed and resolved at a high level and in Georgia. I believe we have the potential for this," he stated.

The Middle Corridor is a transportation and trade route that connects Asia and Europe, passing through several countries in the region. It is an alternative route to the traditional Northern Corridor and Southern Corridor.

The route starts in China and crosses Central Asian countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. It then passes through the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye before reaching Europe.

The Middle Corridor offers a land route that connects the eastern parts of Asia, including China, with Europe, bypassing the longer maritime routes.
