Afghanistan National Football Team Players Resign, Cite Financial Corruption In Federation

Several Afghan national football team players have resigned and accused the Afghan Football Federation of financial corruption in different areas.

On Tuesday, Faisal Shayista and five other players released a statement saying,“We, the players of the Afghan national football team, regretfully announce that we are no longer willing to cooperate or play for the national team in an environment tainted by corruption.”

They have claimed that the Afghan Football Federation has launched a scheme using the national football team“Business” and is pocketing money through various means.

Faisal Shayista, Zulfikar Nazari, Rahmat Akbari, Najm Heydari, Omid Popalzai, and Imran Heydari are players who have all made a public statement regarding corruption in the Afghan Football Federation and have resigned from continuing to work with the national team.

According to these players' allegations, members of the Football Federation are pocketing the money from the round-trip ticket fares of the national team players invited to various countries to play matches.

According to what the players have revealed, members of the Federation have decided to relocate the venue for home matches of the national team to Saudi Arabia starting from Monday“to be able to earn more money from the Arabs.”

Mr. Kargar, Dr. Bahram Seddiqi, and executive committee members have been accused of corruption by the national football team players.

The players have stated that“members of the Afghan Football Federation divided half of the $30,000 gift from Saudi Arabia, which was given to the national team players, among themselves, Mr. Kargar, Dr. Bahram Sadiqi, and executive committee members, and the other half among the players.”

The Afghan Football Federation has not yet responded to the players' allegations and what has been published regarding corruption within this commission.
