Haryana HM Anil Vij Tells DGP To Suspend 372 Cops; Here's Why

(MENAFN- AsiaNet News) Haryana's Home Minister, Anil Vij, has taken a significant step to address the backlog of pending cases by instructing the Director General of Police to suspend 372 Investigating Officers (IOs) across the state. This decision comes in response to the alleged inaction of these officers regarding FIRs (First Information Reports) that have remained unresolved for over a year.
In a formal letter addressed to the Director General of Police, Anil Vij issued a directive for the immediate suspension of 372 IOS across various districts within the state, as confirmed by an official statement.
The Home Minister clarified the basis for his directive, stating, "For a considerable duration, I have been emphasizing the urgency of finalizing the resolution of longstanding cases. In May, the department provided information revealing that nearly 3,229 cases had not seen resolution for over a year. This protracted delay has caused considerable inconvenience to citizens as cases continue to linger without closure. When we summoned the concerned officers to address this issue, 372 of them failed to provide a satisfactory explanation. In light of this, I have issued an order for their immediate suspension."
Additionally, Anil Vij has called for the pending cases to be transferred to the respective Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) with a strict timeline for resolution.
He emphasized, "The cases that are pending before these suspended IOs will be transferred to the respective DSPs with a clear warning that they must ensure the final disposal of these cases within one month. Failure to do so will result in action taken against these officers."
Anil Vij disclosed that among the 372 suspended IOs, there are 60 in Gurugram, 32 in Faridabad, 10 in Panchkula, 30 in Ambala, 57 in Yamunanagar, 31 in Karnal, 3 in Panipat, 14 in Hisar, 66 in Sirsa, 24 in Jind, 5 in Rewari, 31 in Rohtak, and 9 in Sonipat. This wide distribution reflects the scope of the issue and the need for swift resolution across the state.
The Home Minister's decision signals a concerted effort to address the longstanding issue of pending cases and enhance the efficiency of the state's law enforcement agencies.
