Situation Worsening At Russia-Captured Nuclear Power Plant - Energy Minister

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant that remains under the control of the Russian invasion forces has further deteriorated.

This was stated by Ukraine's energy Minister German Galushchenko, Ukrinform reports with reference to the national telethon.

He recalled that the NPP has not been out of operation for more than a year, and Ukraine has been supplying electricity to the plant to ensure the stable functioning of nuclear safety systems.

"But this is the nuclear generation facility. And it is necessary to do the relevant work to maintain the equipment in good condition. No such work has been done. The situation is that the equipment has been degrading," the minister stressed.

Earlier, the International Atomic Energy Agency noted that since the outset of the full-scale war in early 2022, the ZNPP has been facing serious problems with electricity supplies to the site, which increases the risks to nuclear safety at the facility.
