1,000 prisoners detained in Israeli prisons suspend joint hunger strike

(MENAFN) Over 1,000 prisoners who are detained in Israeli prisons have suspended their joint hunger strike, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Movement.

This week, the prisoners began their collective strike. They have brought up the recently declining treatment of prison personnel, that includes invading their cells and ejecting them without warning from one unit to another in the Negev prison.

In support of their massive demonstration, the leaders of the prisoners, who are also prisoners, as well noted threats issued by right-wing Israeli cabinet Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir while visiting the Ofer Prison on Wednesday.

Ben-Gvir imposed harsher punishments on the Palestinian detainees in the Ofer Prison. The methods included depriving the Palestinians of restroom access, transferring them arbitrarily and forcibly between prisons, and conducting additional, purportedly immediate raids into their cells.

Ben-Gvir wrote on social media on Wednesday, “Today, I carried out a tour around the Ofer Prison where Prisoners from Hamas, Fatah, the Popular Front and Islamic Jihad are being jailed.” accompanied by a picture of himself with Israeli security personnel inside the facility.
