Doha, Qatar: This weekend marks the return of DFI at VOX, presenting the thought-provoking film“Our Brothers” directed by Rachid Bouchareb - an introspective tale delving into themes of immigration, integration, and police violence.

From August 24 to 26, at 8pm each night,“Our Brothers” will screen at VOX Cinemas, Doha Festival City.

The Doha film Institute (DFI) made the announcement across its social media platforms. The screening forms a part of the DFI at VOX programme, which treats cinephiles to the latest and most acclaimed releases from the world of independent cinema. In preceding months, this programme showcased films such as“EO,”“The Last Queen,” and“Mediterranean Fever” from May to July.

“Our Brothers” draws inspiration from the real-life narrative of Malik Oussekinean, a 22-year-old whose tragic death was allegedly a result of police violence, following weeks of student protests against a proposed university reform bill.

The film, directed by Rachid Bouchareb, a three-time Academy Award nominee, revisits the poignant events of December 1986 in Paris. While the demise of Oussekinean garnered nationwide attention, the equally sorrowful passing of Abdel Benyahia remained relatively obscure.

Despite being unrelated, these chilling incidents intertwine through a fateful night and Inspector Daniel Mattei. Entrusted with the dual investigation, Mattei confronts an uncooperative police force and government, orchestrating a cover-up of Abdel's death and besmirching the victim's reputation.

The film stars Reda Kateb, Lyna Khoudri, Raphaël Personnaz, and Samir Guesmi.

“Our Brothers is a timely and sobering story about police brutality and race relations with sadly all-too-contemporary relevance,” said DFI.

Interested individuals who want to watch the movie may book their tickets at DFI's website, standard ticket costs QR44, while premium ticket at QR55.
