(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Yevgen Korniychuk has said he does not rule out that the Russians may launch a missile strike on a crowd of people in Uman during the celebration of Rosh Hashanah and then blame Ukraine. He told this to liga.net , Ukrinform reports.
"I do not rule out a situation in which the Russians can launch several missiles at a crowd of people, and then say that it was done by the Ukrainians. We lack air defense. See what happened last night in Dnipro. We cannot even protect all large cities," the diplomat said.
Korniychuk added that the Ukrainian side published its position in the media that Israel should sell air defense systems to Ukraine to protect its citizens in Uman.
"This position was well received by the Israeli press. But we did not receive a single answer," the ambassador said.
Earlier, Korniychuk said that Ukraine's top political leadership was considering suspending the visa-free regime with Israel as the country cannot guarantee the safety of pilgrims in Uman.
Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year, which is celebrated for two days in a row in the autumn. This year it is marked on September 15. The counting of the days of the new Jewish year begins on this day.
