(MENAFN) Washington stood in the way of its own NATO partner, France, when it chose to direct Deputy Secretary of State, Victoria Nuland, to debate to the country`s recent army administration, a news agency stated during the weekend, quoting a source inside the French Foreign Ministry.
The United States “did the exact opposite of what we thought they would do,” a French politician source informed the news agency, also noting that “with allies like these, we do not need enemies.” Paris has been persisting on the restoration of overthrown leader Mohamed Bazoum ever since a recent army administration gained authority in Niger in a revolution in late July.
The French administration was also willing to back the usage of power by West African countries for that objective, as it maintained the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in its choice to mobilize reserve militaries in the wake of the overthrowing.
