Suicide Attack Injures 6 Security Personnel In N. Pakistan

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISLAMABAD, July 18 (KUNA) -- At least six security personnel of the Frontier Corps (FC) were injured in a suicide blast targeting the FC convoy in Pakistan's northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province bordering Afghanistan.
A senior Police official, SSP Operations Haroon Rasheed in a statement to media confirmed that an explosive-laden vehicle was used in the attack targeting the FC convoy.
The official said that at least six personnel of FC were injured in the blast as their convoy came under attack in Hayatabad area of Peshawar, the provincial capital.
"We are further investigating the matter," he said, adding that a search operation was under way.
The area has been cordoned off by the security forces and the injured were shifted to the nearest medical facilities.
A local faction of the banned outfit Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the blast.
Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari strongly condemned the attack, saying that terrorists and planners of such incidents could not "escape the grip of law".
He prayed for the quick recovery of the injured. The attack came a week after at least four soldiers of the Pakistan army and three militants were killed while five others received injuries in a militant attack targeting a garrison in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province.
A rise in militant attacks is witnessed in the province after banned outfit TTP ended its ceasefire with the government in November last year. (end)
