Environment Minister Heads To Brussels For Pre-Cop28 Meetings

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Egypt's Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad, the Ministerial Coordinator and Envoy of the COP27, headed on Wednesday to the Belgian capital, Brussels, to participate in the seventh ministerial meeting on climate action.
The meeting is being held in partnership between the European Union, Canada, and China, and with the participation of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres; and Simon Steel, the Executive Secretary of the UN convention United Nations Framework on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
Fouad said that the meeting will shed light on the COP28 in Dubai and the expected results from it, and mechanisms to build on the results and successes of the COP27 hosted by Egypt in 2022, including the announcement of the Loss and Damage Fund and the mechanisms for activating it.
The meeting will also discuss the mechanism for coming up with an evaluation decision on the global aim to enhance the implementation of the Paris Agreement and international cooperation in the climate issue, as well as the means of implementing and supporting mitigation and adaptation measures.
The Minister of Environment stated that the meeting is expected to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in the field of mitigation measures, mechanisms for countries to accelerate global cooperation in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency in the near term, ways to accelerate the just transition of energy, and achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement and sustainable development.
It will also address strengthening work on adaptation and discussing progress in promoting adaptation and resilience, agreement on a global goal for adaptation, and international cooperation to implement adaptation actions.
Climate finance, the progress made in achieving the goal of providing and mobilizing $100 bn per year from developed countries until 2025, and the expected progress in discussing climate finance at the upcoming COP28 will also be discussed during the Brussels meeting.
On the sidelines of her participation in the meeting, the Minister of Environment will hold a number of bilateral meetings to discuss ways of bilateral cooperation in the fields of environment and climate with various countries and international institutions, including Jordan, Belgium and the European Union.
