(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) The Ministry of Agriculture has announced that Giza Zoo and Orman Garden will close for 18 months for renovations.
During this time, a coalition of three entities, the National Authority for Military Production, Abnaa Sinai for construction and Building, and My Garden, will implement the development works that will last for a year and a half. The coalition is assigned to manage the two places for 25 years.
Reports from several media outlets said that the contents of the Giza Zoo and Orman Garden, including trees, ancient buildings, animals, birds, reptiles, and others, have been documented. However, the trees will not be affected by the renovation plan. Instead, the primary aim is to increase the number of trees in the area.
Media reports have stated that some animals of Giza Zoo will be transferred to other locations during the development period. Two foreign companies have been contracted; South Africa's Worldwide Zoo Consultants, and Bernard Harrison and Friends, for training workers and ensuring proper feeding methods. Worldwide Zoo, which has a regional office in Abu Dhabi, will be responsible for training workers for four years, after which Egyptians will take over the training. As for the second foreign company, it will be responsible for the redesign of the zoo.
Meanwhile, the zoo will continue to be supervised by the Ministry of Agriculture.
