Kiev: Ukraine asks for additional Western jets
(MENAFN) Ukrainian Air Force Command official Yury Ignat stated on Tuesday that F-16 fighter jets assured to Ukraine by its Western supporters are not the only army aircraft that Kiev desires.
“Ukraine considers and will consider other aircraft types that could enhance combat capabilities,” Ignat informed country`s broadcasters when questioned regarding Kiev possibly obtaining American-manufactured F/A-18 Hornets from Australia.
He confessed, however, Ukraine cannot apply too much pressure on the United States as well as its associates as it hinges on Western assistance.
Ignat stated that the United States-manufactured F/A-18 as well as F-15, also the Eurofighter Typhoon, have a broader range and can hold more armory. However, he declared that Kiev is going to continue focusing on obtaining F-16s first, also noting that Ukrainian pilots could learn how to operate them sooner.
Ukrainian pilots have still not started their F-16 drill, the official stated, also noting that representatives in Kiev are “working on the issue every day” through inspecting bases that are due to caters as exercise hubs.
