Yazd province expects 440 tons of honey this year

(MENAFN) According to a representative of the province's agriculture department, 440 tons of honey are anticipated to be gathered in Yazd province in the current year. Some of this honey will be consumed locally, but the majority will be exported to other parts of the nation.

The deputy chief of the province’s Agriculture Department for plant production, Mehdi Gheybollahi, stated that the two-month-long process of extracting natural honey from 876,000 hives spread around the province has begun.

In order to boost the nation's beekeeping business, the managing director of the beekeeping industry development support fund stated in May that the fund offers low-interest facilities to beekeepers worth 170 billion rials (approximately USD440,760).

Iran is the third-biggest manufacturer of honey worldwide, according to information gathered by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.

In accordance to the chief of the Animal Science Research Institute, the nation should produce between three and four kg more honey each colony.
