Politico: EU restricts discussions prolonged due to Kiev`s ‘war sponsor’ list

(MENAFN) Discussions around the EU’s 11th package of permissions on Russia have prolonged cause of the disagreement from Athens and Budapest, which want their firms delisted from a list of ‘war sponsors’ assembled by Kiev, based on Politico.

Two terms of discussions in Brussels during this week closed with no agreement available, the newspaper stated on Saturday, quoting many unknown diplomatic sources.

The foremost roadblock is claimed to be Kiev’s infamous list of “sanctions-evaders” as well as “international sponsors of war,” which displays several European firms simply due to their refusal to cut all business relations with Russia.

Assembled by the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP), the list contains firms such as German wholesaler Metro, French retailer Auchan, Italian cement company Buzzi Unicem, as well as Austrian banking group Raiffeisen.

Hungary was the only European Union country to declare objections at a foreign ministers assembly on Monday, voicing worries that Kiev’s allegations against OTP Bank might be dignified with the bloc’s in the upcoming round of restrictions. On Wednesday, Greece reportedly joined in, stating accusations of restrictions evasion might be “very damaging” to its economy as well.
