London schoolchildren demonstrate solidarity with Turkey after twin earthquakes

(MENAFN) In a display of solidarity with Turkey after twin earthquakes in the country's southern region in February, primary school students in London presented the Turkish ambassador with 2,500 paper hearts on May 10. The hearts, representing the approximately 2,500 miles (4,023 kilometers) between the school and Turkey, were made from pieces of paper cut in the shape of hearts and decorated with messages of support and the Turkish flag. St. John's Church of England School students and teachers created the hearts.

During the school's visit to the Turkish Embassy in London, the hearts were presented to Ambassador Osman Koray Ertas, along with messages of well-wishes and condolences to those affected by the earthquakes and their families. In his speech during the visit, Ertas thanked the students and teachers for their display of solidarity with Turkey.

Ertas expressed his appreciation for the generosity, sensitivity, and kindness of the students, saying that they had set a beautiful example of solidarity. At the end of his speech, Ertas presented each student in the delegation with a special letter he had written for them.

In addition to the heart display, the students made a monetary donation to support those affected by the earthquakes. The earthquakes, which occurred on February 6 and had magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6, respectively, caused more than 50,000 deaths in southern and southeastern Turkish provinces.
