Qatar Takes Part In GCC Standardization Authorities Meet

Muscat: The State of Qatar participated in the 55th meeting of the Technical Board of Heads of GCC Standardization Authorities, which concluded yesterday under the presidency of the Sultanate of Oman, with the participation of Their Excellencies Heads and Representatives of national standardisation bodies in the member states.
In the two-day meeting, the State of Qatar's delegation was headed by Chairperson of Qatar General Organization for Standards and Metrology Eng. Mohammed bin Saud Al Musallam.
During the meeting, several important topics on the agenda were discussed, most prominent of which was a review of a memorandum for the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) regarding the adoption of draft standards and Gulf technical regulations and their amendments as Gulf specifications (464 projects), and evaluating the performance of the Gulf technical committees for the year 2022, in addition to discussing the request of the Iraqi Central Organization of Standardization and Quality Control (COSQC) for the membership of the Gulf Association for Metrology (as an associate member).
During the meeting, the participants reviewed a memorandum for the presidency of GSO regarding the decision of the Trade Cooperation Committee to refer the proposal to use the 'Gulf Conformity Mark' system as a substitute for the 'Gulf Quality Mark.'
During the meeting, the issue of implementing the Technical Board of Heads' decision to submit draft Gulf technical regulations that had previously been prepared and notified to the World Trade Organization (WTO) has also been discussed, as well as a memorandum to the authority's presidency regarding the proposal to establish the GCC Award for Quality.
The meeting also addressed the updates on the implementation of the GCC Standardization Organization's plan for 2021-2025, as well as a memorandum of the authority's presidency regarding the Gulf accreditation centre and preparation for the 5th meeting of the GCC Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs. The Technical Board of Heads discussed the final account of the authority.
The meeting was concluded with a set of recommendations supporting joint Gulf action in the various fields of standardisation.
