(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BERLIN, April 24 (KUNA) -- Germany has evacuated 214 citizens from the embattled Sudanese city of Khartoum where Sudanese Army troops and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces have been engaged in fighting, the German army said in a statement on Monday.
The army statement said two aircraft flew from Khartoum, last night, and landed in the military base Al-Azraq in Jordan. They boarded 215 German evacuees, it said.
Total number of German nationals who had resided in Sudan before the recent flare-up of the fighting was in the range of 350.
The statement indicated that 1,000 German military personnel were engaged in the evacuation operation.
Several other countries including Kuwait and Saudi Arabia had already brought a number of citizens home safely from Sudan. (end)
