UN Chief Decries Killing Civilians In Sudan


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW YORK, April 17 (KUNA) -- United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guteress has tersely condemned the killing and injury of civilians in the ongoing armed clashes in Sudan.
In a statement, the UN secretary general alluded to the death of three members of the World Food Programme and injury of two others in Darfur.
Gutteress, whose statement came in a press release addressed by a spokesperson, affirmed necessity that the Sudanese warring factions cease hostilities without delay.
The statement said the UN chief was deeply alarmed by the continuation of the clashes between the army troops and the Rapid Support Forces.
Some buildings that house UN offices and others for humanitarian agencies were bombed and ransacked in several regions in Darfur, he said.
He called for immediate cessation of the fighting, resuming dialogue, noting that he was engaged with leaders of regional countries and the Sudanese parties to find a way out of the crisis. (end)
