China Rebukes Poland's PM for Linking Ukraine Crisis to Taiwan Tensions

(MENAFN) The Chinese government has taken issue with Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki's recent statements linking the Ukraine conflict to rising tensions over Taiwan. The Chinese embassy in Warsaw issued a statement on Friday condemning the speech, accusing Morawiecki of disrespecting China's territorial integrity and interfering in its internal affairs. In his speech at the Atlantic Council, a pro-NATO think tank, the Polish premier argued that if Ukraine is defeated in its conflict with Russia, China may take the opportunity to invade Taiwan. These comments have drawn criticism from former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who also rebuked Morawiecki for suggesting that NATO would easily defeat Moscow's forces in a direct confrontation.

China has long claimed sovereignty over Taiwan, which it regards as a breakaway province, and has vowed to reunify with the self-governing island by any means necessary, including the use of force. Tensions in the region have been on the rise due to controversial visits to Taipei by politicians from the US and other NATO-aligned nations. In response, China has cut off defense ties with Washington and increased military drills around Taiwan. The Chinese embassy's statement emphasized that any attempt to link the Ukraine crisis to the Taiwan issue is political manipulation with ulterior motives and a violation of the principle of respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
