Elon Musk's Twitter Follow Sparks Tesla India Expansion Speculation

(MENAFN) Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, sparked a wave of speculation on social media after he began following Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Twitter. Many users were quick to assume that the move could signal Tesla's interest in opening a production line in India or entering the Indian market.

Narendra Modi is one of the most popular politicians on Twitter, with over 87.7 million followers. However, neither he nor Musk has commented on the CEO's decision to follow the Indian leader.

Musk, who purchased Twitter in October 2022, is himself the most followed person on the social media platform. With almost 134.4 million followers, he commands a significant portion of Twitter's 450-million-strong pool of active users. Interestingly, Musk only follows a total of 193 accounts.

Last year, New Delhi extended an invitation to Tesla to set up a manufacturing plant in India. The country's transport minister, Nitin Gadkari, told journalists in May 2022 that Tesla could benefit significantly from manufacturing electric vehicles in India.

While Musk's decision to follow Modi on Twitter has fueled speculation about Tesla's potential expansion into India, it is important to note that this move does not necessarily confirm any business plans. Nonetheless, it is clear that Tesla is eyeing the Indian market and exploring ways to establish a presence in the country. With its growing population and increasing demand for electric vehicles, India could be a crucial market for Tesla's long-term growth strategy.
