Asia Lions Crush India Maharajas, Set Up Final Against World Giants

Doha: Shahid Afridi-led Asia Lions displayed an all-round performance to trounce Gautam Ghambir's India Maharajas by 85 runs and set up tomorrow's Legends League Cricket (LLC) Masters title clash against World Giants.

From winning the toss, everything went in favour of Afridi's side in the Eliminator yesterday as Sri Lankan pair of Upul Tharanga and Tillakaratne Dilshan combined for an 83-run opening wicket partnership to set platform for a big total at Doha's Asian Town International Stadium.

Man-of-the-Match Tharanga played a valuable knock of 50 from 31 balls, hitting seven boundaries and a six in the process. Owing to his fine innings, the Lions amassed a total of 191-5 after electing to bat first.

Dilshan (27 off 26), Mohammed Hafeez (38 off 24), Asghar Afghan (34 off 24) and Thisara Perera (24 off 12) also made useful contribution. The Lions were equally impressive in defending their total, bowling out Maharajas for only 106 in 16.4 overs. Hafeez (2/21) Abdur Razzak (2/27) and Sohail Tanvir (2/25) were the main performing bowlers for the Lions. Apart from captain Ghambir, who struck 32 from 17 balls, no other Maharajas batsmen managed to pose threat for the Lions.

The final will get underway at 5:30pm.
