Katara To Organise Qatari, African Traditional Costumes Show

Doha: The Cultural Village Foundation, Katara held discussions with Unesco in enhancing relations of cooperation and cultural exchange programmes.

The meeting was between Katara General Manager, Prof. Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, Unesco Representative for the Gulf States and Yemen and Director of the Unesco Office in Qatar, Salah El Din Zaki Khaled, and World-renowned Nigerian fashion designer Sidahmed Seidnaly (a.k.a. Alphadi) and also Unesco Artist for Peace and Unesco Goodwill Ambassador for African innovation and creation.

Prof. Dr. Al Sulaiti said:“It was a fruitful meeting in which we discussed ways to support the joint cultural movement, opportunities for cultural, intellectual and creative exchange, and the development of cultural programmes, which achieves the Katara Cultural Village Foundation's strategy that seeks to be a meeting place for cultures.”

“We have discussed the possibility of cooperation to organise a show of Qatari and African traditional costumes that includes clothing, jewelry and embroidery, and it will be shown in Katara as well as in the French city of Paris.” Al Sulaiti also stressed that Katara has become a global beacon that draws the attention of various international bodies and organisations working in the cultural and humanitarian field to organise and host experiences international cultural and artistic creativity.

For his part, Alphadi praised the efforts of the Cultural Village Foundation, Katara, and said:“We aspire to have a constructive cooperation in the fields of culture, art, and education with the Qatari side to better address cultural issues and strengthen human relations.”
