KAUST to host inaugural global conference on sustainable development in Saudi Arabia
(MENAFN) The King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is set to host the first-ever Global Sustainable Development Congress in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which is expected to attract more than 1,200 experts and innovators from around the world. The three-day conference, starting on May 30, is organized by the Times Higher Education magazine, and will bring together leaders from higher education, government, business, and civil society to discuss sustainable solutions.
The event will focus on several key topics, including the role of universities in helping society achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. The discussions are going to be centered around four main themes: health and population sciences, sustainable energy and industry, sustainable environment, and sustainable cities and communities.
KAUST President Tony Chan has emphasized the significance of the conference, stating that it is a call to action for international universities to direct their programs towards achieving tangible and influential results. The event will provide a platform for experts to share their knowledge, experiences and ideas on sustainable development, and to discuss practical solutions for achieving sustainable transformation.
Times Higher Education Chief Data Officer Duncan Ross has also highlighted the importance of the conference, stating that it is designed to inspire strategic change for universities committed to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals. The event will provide a unique opportunity to add human context to data, allowing representatives and participants to work creatively and innovatively together.
Overall, the Global Sustainable Development Congress is expected to provide a forum for sharing ideas and experiences, and for developing innovative solutions that is going to help universities to play a pivotal role in promoting sustainable development.
