At-Turaif District.. First Capital Of Saudi State

RIYADH, Feb 23 (KUNA) -- At-Turaif district, constructed in 1766 in Al-Dir'yah northwest of Riyadh, is a World Heritage Site due to its significance to the establishment of Saudi Arabia.
The district was the center for the Al-Saud family under the leadership of Imam Mohammad bin Saud, founder of the first Saudi state and fifth grandfather of current King Salman bin Abdulaziz.
The Salwa Palace is the largest structure in the district.
In 2010, At-Turaif was listed as a World Heritage Site for its buildings and design. (end) mdm.gta
