Senior officials discuss security deliberations President Biden had with the Ukrainian president

(MENAFN) Senior officials in President Joe Biden's administration have discussed the security deliberations that preceded the decision to go and the details of the talks President Biden held with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his approximately five hours in Kyiv on Monday.

Even though the officials were mum on the specific security measures needed to handle the visit, including Biden's means of travel into and out of the war-torn nation, they did confirm that the U.S. had alerted Russia about the visit just before Biden flew for Ukraine.

President's national security advisor Jake Sullivan informed reporters in a press conference on Monday morning, "we did notify the Russians that President Biden would be traveling to Kyiv. We did so some hours before his departure for deconfliction purposes."

Sullivan also mentioned that "because of the sensitive nature of those communications, I won't get into how they responded or what the precise nature of our message was. But I can confirm that we provided that notification."
