Lula Visits India to Boost Relations


(MENAFN) Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a state visit, coinciding with the ongoing AI Impact Summit 2026, as stated by reports. During his stay, Lula will take part in the India-AI Impact Summit and engage in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to officials, the president’s visit is scheduled from February 18 to 22, with discussions with Modi planned for Saturday. A spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that Lula’s trip is expected to “impart strong momentum to India-Brazil partnership.”

“India and Brazil share a close and multifaceted relationship, elevated to Strategic Partnership and rooted in a common global vision, shared democratic values and commitment to inclusive growth,” the spokesperson added.

The two countries recorded $12.54 billion in bilateral trade in 2024, and formal diplomatic relations date back to 1948. Both nations are also members of the BRICS group, which is currently led by India.
