(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Russia is suspending its participation in the nuclear arms reduction treaty with the United States.

According to an Ukrinform correspondent, he said this in a speech to the federal assembly.

'I am forced to announce today that Russia is suspending its participation in the strategic offensive arms treaty,' Putin said.

He motivated this by the fact that they want to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia. Before that, he also stated that the West was allegedly involved in attempts to attack Russian air bases hosting nuclear-capable strategic bombers.
