The ground was broken for the construction of 450 National Housing Movement units in Hormozgan province, located in the south of Iran, on the occasion of the Ten-Day Dawn (February 1-11), which marks the 44th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution. A provincial official announced the start of the construction project during a ceremony held in Bandar Abbas, the capital city of the province.

Abbas Kamali, the head of Hormozgan Transport and Urban Development Department, addressed the groundbreaking ceremony and stated that the department had provided 1.9 hectares of land for the construction of the 450 units. In November 2022, a board member of the National Land and Housing Organization had announced that approximately 57,000 hectares of land within the boundaries of cities had been made available for the National Housing Movement plan.

This plan, which aims to construct four million housing units in four years, is one of the major initiatives of the current government in the housing sector. As per the plan, 3.2 million units will be constructed in cities and 800,000 units in villages. Some of these units are already under construction after the necessary lands and conditions have been provided.

Hadi Abbasi-Asl, the deputy minister of transport and urban development, announced in early November that at least one million units of the National Housing Movement are currently under construction, with an average progress of about 30 percent. The National Housing Movement is the government’s second major program for providing affordable housing units to low-income classes after the National Housing Action Plan, which began in 2018.

The operation for the construction of 209,212 residential units of the National Housing Movement began in early February 2022, and the ceremony to launch the operation and other development projects in the housing sector was attended by the former Transport and Urban Development Minister Rostam Qasemi. In late July, Qasemi also inaugurated a project for the construction of the first group of affordable housing units for laborers under the framework of the National Housing Movement.

Finally, the deputy head of the Housing Foundation of Islamic Revolution announced in November 5 that 195,000 units of the National Housing Movement are under construction in rural areas. With the groundbreaking ceremony for 450 units in Hormozgan province and the various initiatives and projects being undertaken as part of the National Housing Movement, the government is making significant progress in its mission to provide affordable housing units to the low-income classes in both urban and rural areas.
