BPS Wins French Spelling Bee Contest

Doha; Birla Public School (BPS) won the 1st and 2nd prize in the intermediate category in the 10th International French Spell Bee Competition held in New Delhi recently by the Association Le Frehindi.
Delhi Public School, R K Puram, New Delhi won the 3rd prize in the intermediate category.
More than 50 schools participated for the same like Greenfields School-Safdarjung Enclave-New Delhi, Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya – Gwalior and Springdales Public School – New Delhi. A total of 72 students from all over India had qualified to the final round of International Level held in New Delhi. From the 72 students 22 were short listed after a tough preliminary round. Then through various rounds the winners were filtered into the finals.
The first prize was won by Achwin Ravikumar of Grade 8 (Overall winner). The second prize was won by Pooja Vineesh Pillai. Trophies, gold medals, certificates and all-expense paid trip to Paris (1st prize) and Auroville Pondicherry-India (2nd prize) were awarded respectively.
Arshita Pillai of Grade 7 and Gaurang Yogesh Mhatre of Grade 5 were awarded gold medals and certificates for qualifying to the final round.
A total of 17 students of BPS participated and the toppers of the various categories of round one were Thanmaya Ram Menon of Grade 4 in the Débutant level, Achwin Ravikumar in the Intérmediare and Herleen Nicole Dsouza of Grade 10 in the Avancé level.
After round two in the Débutant level, Gaurang Yogesh Mhatre and in the intermediare Achwin Ravikumar, Pooja Vineesh Pillai, Arshita Pillai qualified to the finals. The students had to spell the words in French. The competition was very challenging and difficult. The winners from Birla were appreciated for their commendable performance by the judges, other schoolteachers and the audience.
The students were trained by the faculties of the French Department of BPS led by Maria Phentalia Joseph (HoD). Arokianadhen Abraham and Sirisha Patnaik were the other coaches of the victorious team.
