5.4-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Eastern Indonesia


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) An earthquake measuring 5.4 magnitude on the Richter scale struck the province of Papua in eastern Indonesia.
A statement from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) in Indonesia said Thursday that the epicentre of the earthquake occurred 9 km from the city of Jayapura in the province, at a depth of 10 km.
The agency warned of aftershocks as a result of the earthquake, while there have been no reports of material damage or human losses as a result of the earthquake so far.
On Jan 2, an earthquake measuring 4.9 magnitude struck the province of Papua in eastern Indonesia without causing a tsunami.
Earthquakes regularly strike different parts of Indonesia due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire.
