Iran’s copper cathode output surpasses 200,000 tons in first 9 months

(MENAFN) Output of copper cathode in Iran reached an amount of 216,000 tons in the opening nine months of the present Iranian calendar year (March 21-December 21, 2022), as shown by the figures issued by Industry, Mining and Trade Ministry.

The ministry’s figures show that the nine-month copper cathode production has dropped five percent in comparison with the output in the same span of time in the last year.

Iran prepares to surge its copper cathode output to one million tons an annum during the upcoming six years under the guideline of a comprehensive strategy for copper sector development, Chairman of Iran Copper Association Bahram Shakouri declared last November.

In line with Shakouri according to the stated strategy which has been drafted by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), the nation’s copper cathode production is estimated to amount to 800,000 tons an annum within the next two years.

“The world's movement towards the use of clean technologies and innovations will increase the consumption of non-ferrous metals such as copper, and in the coming years, there will be a need to supply copper up to four times today,” Shakouri stated.

Shakouri finished his speech by saying, “Today, the copper chain is complete with cathode production in the country, while more than 50 percent of the copper cathode is being exported, and if we can create more added value in this sector, we will have more exports and gain more revenue.”
