Public and private schools in Sharjah's Kalba City and Fujairah dispersed students at 12pm today due to heavy rain and the unstable weather conditions predicted for the next few days. Field trips scheduled today and tomorrow were also cancelled.

School administrations sent text messages and e-mails to parents, stating:“The weather forecast for Wednesday and Thursday indicated rainfall of different intensities, and to ensure the safety of students, all school trips scheduled during this school week will be cancelled.'

The authorities in the eastern region have taken necessary measures to ensure safety and prevent rainwater from accumulating on roads once heavy rain hits the area.

Calling on the public to heed advisories on weather conditions, a top official from the Fujairah Police said they have ramped up patrol operations on beaches and areas near valleys to ensure residents' safety.

The Fujairah Civil Defence Department listed six measures that motorists must take when driving during heavy rain:

>> Check the latest weather forecast from official sources.

>> Before hitting the roads, inspect your vehicle, tyres, and wipers and ensure all of them are in good condition.

>> Drive with caution and at an appropriate speed.

>> Stay away from valleys and water pools.

The Kalba station of the Sharjah Police is also fully prepared for the unstable weather conditions.

'When driving through the rain, exercise caution and give way to police and emergency vehicles,' the police said.

An official from the Kalba Municipality said they have taken all precautionary measures to ensure public safety. All teams and equipment are on standby in case roads need to be cleared of water pools.
