Before Christmas, airline strikes cancel lots of trips in Spain

(MENAFN) On Friday, scores of flights from Spain had to be canceled due to low-cost airline workers going on strike.

After pilots started a flight that would continue to cause travel disruptions during the holiday season, local and international carrier Air Nostrum had to cancel 78 flights in the last two days.

Additionally, the airline reports that on December 26, 27, 29, 30, and the two days after the new year, about 35 flights per day will be canceled.

The strike is being attributed by the pilots' union Sepla to Air Nostrum's unwillingness to agree to reasonable wage increases and working conditions.

The ongoing cabin staff strike is affecting the Spanish airline Vueling. 10 percent of flights had to be canceled, according to the airline, on strike days.

The Vueling strike started previously this month and impacts flights every Friday, Sunday, Monday as well as the holiday.

Stavla, the union behind the Vueling strike, labeled the firm’s program to surge wages by just 2 percent “an insult.”
