UK requests assessment of Ukraine support

(MENAFN) A Whitehall source told BBC Newsnight on Friday that British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has sought a "data-driven evaluation" of the situation in Ukraine, raising worries that London would halt or cancel supplies to Kiev.

According to an unidentified source at the official television, the "Goldman Sachs dashboard" analysis of the conflict would look at how Ukraine has used military equipment given by the UK.

“This is about looking at what we have put in, what we have got out,” the outlet stated.

The source went on to say that “Wars aren't won [by dashboards]. Wars are won on instinct. At the start of this it was Boris [Johnson] sitting down and saying: 'Let's just go for this.' So Rishi needs to channel his inner Boris on foreign policy, though not of course on anything else.”

Sunak has been Prime Minister since late October, succeeding Liz Truss after only 50 days at 10 Downing Street. Johnson was a hawk on Ukraine before being booted by his own party in September, and he even came to Kiev in April to discourage President Vladimir Zelensky from making peace with Russia, according to Ukrainian media.

Ukraine Leader “has been talking to Rishi. He is trying to inspire him, saying the UK are the great liberators, the great fighters. ‘We need you. Rise to that’,” the Whitehall source informed the BBC.
