Pakistan claims that Taliban attacked frontier town

(MENAFN) According to the Pakistani army, as was cited by the Associated Press, Taliban troops attacked the town of Chaman on Sunday and claimed six lives in the process. The most recent hotspot in an intensifying conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan is Chaman, which is located on their shared border.

While a doctor at a state-run hospital in the border town told the AP that 27 injured persons were taken to the facility for treatment, the Pakistani army stated that six people were killed and 17 were injured as a result of "unprovoked and indiscriminate" firing by Afghan terrorists.

The military of Pakistan claimed to have retaliated to the bombardment but gave no additional details. According to a spokeswoman for Kandahar Governor Ataullah Zaid in Afghanistan, the Pakistani reaction resulted in the deaths of one Taliban fighter and ten other combatants, as well as three civilians.

Between the Pakistani city of Quetta and Kandahar, the second-largest city in Afghanistan, is where Chaman is located. The Chaman border crossing, a crucial commercial route between the two nations, was closed last month for more than a week following the fatal shooting of a Pakistani guard.
