The remarks come at a time when the aviation sector is slowly moving back to pre-Covid levels after being severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) official said that India has reached the 48th position in the global aviation security ranking of ICAO. Four years ago the country was ranked 102nd.
He said Singapore topped the ranking, followed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and South Korea. China ranks 49th in this list.
Kumar said the regulator has worked tirelessly to improve India's safety ranking and the results are visible.
“A strong security oversight system is essential for flight safety… The DGCA team has worked tirelessly to strengthen aviation security,” he told PTI. We are at our highest ever ranking, and the challenge now is to maintain it and improve further.
ICAO is expected to formally announce India's ranking in the coming weeks. A total of 187 countries are included in this ranking.
India and Georgia are at the 48th position with a score of 85.49 per cent. Neighboring Pakistan got 70.39 per cent marks.
