EU presidents blamed for energy disaster

(MENAFN) European Union policymakers are to accuse for the continent’s energy disaster, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Saturday.

Talking to Moscow news channel TV Center, Zakharova announced the bloc's presidents have “pushed Europe, in particular the European Union, towards a global energy collapse.” According to her, they still need to convince their citizens that the crisis “is in their own interests.”

“It’s a test for democracy,” she also said.

Zakharova continued to ironically state that the bloc's members “did a good job” in managing the energy sector – mainly in coping with the explosions that burst the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines in late September. “We are talking about the Baltic Sea, an area that is controlled by NATO countries… this is their area of responsibility,” she went on.

Western nations announced the blasts are acts of damage. On the other hand, they refrained from jumping to assumptions or blaming – a practice they do not do if there is “an order to accuse Russia,” Zakharova added.
