Poland's air defenses might be strengthened by Germany

(MENAFN) Following a fatal incident last Tuesday in which a stray missile, largely assumed to be a Ukrainian weapon, killed two people in the village of Przewodow, Germany has pledged to bolster Poland's air defenses. According to media reports, German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht claimed Berlin is willing to provide Warsaw its fighter planes and Patriot air-defense missiles.

Lambrecht declared in an interview with the German newspapers Rheinische Post and General-Anzeiger that "We have offered Poland to support [it] in securing [its] airspace – with our Eurofighters and Patriot air-defense systems." She claimed that these weapons are currently present in Slovakia, and that Olaf Scholz's administration intends to maintain a military presence there through the end of 2023 and "possibly even beyond that."

The German minister also urged other NATO members, notably Slovakia and the Baltic States, to strengthen their air defenses.

Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak posted a message on Twitter on Monday stating that Warsaw "with satisfaction took up the German defense minister on her offer to deploy additional Patriot launchers." He continued by saying that Poland planned to install the air defense systems along its border with Ukraine.
