Taliban Reveal Mulla Omar's Grave After A Gap Of Nine Years

Afghan Taliban has finally revealed the final resting place of movement founder Mulla Muhammad Omar after a gap of nine years.

Taliban spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid on Sunday shared the pictures of Mulla Omar grave on his Twitter handle. Taliban had earlier confirmed that Mullah Omar had died of natural causes in 2013.

The pictures showed Taliban Prime Minister Mulla Hassan Akhund and his other cabinet members praying at the grave, which is located in Suri district of Zabul province.

Mr Mujahid told foreign media outlet that they had kept the Mulla Omar grave site hidden due to the fear of its desecration during the foreign occupation of Afghanistan.

He said that since now no such threat existed; therefore, they were revealing the grave site and people can visit it.

Mulla Omar had died of in 2013 at the age of 44. He had founded the Taliban movement during the chaotic period of civil war following the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan.
