With the oncoming harsh winter months, the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) provided assistance to hundreds of poor families in the northern Afghan province of Balkh.

The ARCS also announced that it has finalized a survey of flood-stricken families, in Ghazni province in central Afghanistan, promising to provide them with aid soon.

The ARCS announced on Twitter on Friday, October 14, that it had provided assistance to Balkh and Ghazni flood-affected and displaced families.

Over 800 destitute families in the Dihdadi district of Balkh province, who have also been hit by drought, have received essential food and non-food aid items, according to the ARCS.

With the promise of receiving aid from ARCS, 500 families in Gilan district of Ghazni and another 500 in the provincial capital of Ghazni have been surveyed by ARCS.

According to the ARCS, these families were affected by the recent floods that killed people's loved ones and destroyed their homes.

The Turkish Red Crescent provided 75 kilograms of flour as part of the aid supplies that the ARCS distributed, along with a package of warm clothing for the coming winter.

According to a report by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) said that over 23 million of the Afghan population is food insecure.

This comes as Afghanistan is experiencing one of the world's“worst” humanitarian crises, a crisis entailing poverty, hunger, and unemployment, which all are magnified by the political turmoil.
