KABUL, Afghanistan – A delegation of the Islamic Emirate held talks with the United States officials in Doha Saturday, according to sources, months after Washington announced the death of al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri in a drone strike in Afghan capital.

The Islamic Emirate delegation was comprised of representatives from the intelligence department, the Foreign Ministry and the Defense Ministry, the sources said. The US delegation included the US special envoy for Afghanistan, representatives from the CIA, as well as the State Dept and Department of Defense.

Doha talks aimed at finding solutions to the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan, including human rights, girl's education and formation of inclusive government.

“First to fulfill the Doha agreement, second to observe human rights and to reopen girls' schools, and third to form an inclusive government,” said Sayed Ishaq Gailani, leader of the National Solidarity Movement of Afghanistan, as

But the Taliban leadership has a different version of the talks, saying it focused on recent US drone strike in Afghanistan, violations of the Doha agreement and its fulfillment, restrictions on Afghan banks, and the transfer of Afghan assets from the Swiss bank.

In August, President Biden announced an American drone strike killed Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri at an urban safe house in Afghanistan – a key plotter of the 9/11 terrorist attacks who took over as the leader of Al-Qaeda after Osama bin Laden's death.

“The United States will not rest, will not allow for safe haven, will not allow anyone to use Afghanistan as a launching pad for terrorist attacks against the United States or against the American interest anywhere,” said the US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

While the drone strike affected relationship between Washington and Kabul, the United States government – including international community – said the Taliban has broken Doha agreement, providing sanctuary to the well-known terrorist leader.

But, in a contrast, the second Deputy Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate Abdul Salam Hanafi defied, saying the United States drone strike in Kabul violates both national sovereignty and the Doha Agreement.

“These issues are still unclear to us, the only thing we know for sure is that a drone attack has taken place, which is against international law and the Doha Agreement,” Hanafi said, as

Meanwhile, the Gulf state of Qatar in a statement called for the preservations of gains of the Doha agreement, one of which is to not use Afghanistan soil as a thread against any country, including America.
