Air Travel Becomes Even Costlier

(MENAFN- Bangladesh Monitor)

Dhaka: The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has increased its exchange rate of taka against US dollar to BDT 97.37 per USD effective from October 1, 2022, making air travel even costlier when airfare is already sky high.

Earlier, IATA's exchange rate of taka against US dollar was BDT 93.97 per USD. Meaning, the latest hike results in a BDT 3.40 increase per USD.

The latest hike comes at a time when the airfares from Bangladesh to different destinations in the world are already high due to a surge in travel demand.

There has been plenty of labour, business, student, medical and leisure movement from Bangladesh to different countries in the world.

However, the available seats are falling short catering to such growing travel demand in the post-pandemic times.

Hence, the current gap between supply and demand has led to an increase of airfare significantly in recent times.

Therefore, this exchange rate increasing move of taka against US dollar by IATA is going to make air travel even costlier and passengers will eventually bear the hit, according to industry insiders.

They fear the exchange rate hike of taka against US dollar by IATA might further increase the cost of air travel by 10 per cent, making passengers suffer in turn.
