Azerbaijan Embassy In Doha Commemorates Memorial Day

Doha: The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Qatar yesterday marked the Memorial Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan which was attended by Azerbaijani community members and media persons.

Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the State of Qatar H E Rashad Ismayilov delivered a speech about the war path of the sons, martyrs and veterans of Azerbaijan who wrote a glorious history in the 44-day Patriotic War.

The Memorial Day in the Republic of Azerbaijan is the day of remembrance of the martyrs who lost their lives in the Second Karabakh War, which lasted from September 27 to November 10, 2020.

President Ilham Aliyev of the Republic of Azerbaijan issued a decree on December 2, 2020, deciding to celebrate September 27 of every year in memory of the martyrs as Memorial Day in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

In this regard, a commemorative event was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Qatar. The members of the Azerbaijani community living in Qatar and local media representatives attended the event.

At the beginning of the event, the memory of the martyrs was commemorated with a minute of silence.

Ambassador Ismayilov thanked the State of Qatar for its constant support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Qatar welcomed the agreement reached between Azerbaijan and Armenia on a ceasefire in the Nagorno-Karabakh region. 

During the Patriotic War, 2,783 military members of the Azerbaijan Armed Forces were killed, more than a hundred went missing, and more than a thousand were injured.
