AMMAN — A two-week training course on the conservation of mosaics at archaeological sites was launched on Sunday night in the presence of HH Princess Dana Firas, president of the Petra National Trust and the UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Cultural Heritage.
The course, which brings together conservation and restoration experts, is being held by the Department of Antiquities in partnership with the Getty Conservation Institute and the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
It focuses on two strategic and sustainable methods for preserving archaeological sites: protective shelters and reburial. Minister of Tourism Nayef Fayez, who attended the launch ceremony of the first session, said that this course is an 'important' opportunity to preserve the mosaics spread across the Kingdom, and to 'pass on the stories they tell to future generations'.
