Manipur Handloom Promotion Body Asks Govt To Setup Proposed Handloom Centre
Imphal, Sept 12 (KNN) The Manipur Handloom Promotion Council (HPC) president Chingtam Luwang on Sunday appealed to the government to setup the proposed handloom and handicraft centre.
The land plot of 2.26 acres for the proposed centre was allotted by the commerce and industry department a decade back. Since then no progress has been made.
While addressing the handloom convention organised by HPC at GM'Hall, Luwang expressed remorse that though the department was allotted requisite land plot for developing the centre no work has been taken up till date.
He also appealed to the government to revive State Level Handloom and Handicraft Advisory Board, which was also dissolved a decade ago.
The handloom and handicraft sector plays a significant role in the Manipur's economy and with the promotion of this sector, the state can increase its revenue.
Luwang also stressed the need for a special centre in Imphal city area for organising exhibition, fair and conference for the sector.
Imphal Urban Cooperative Bank Limited retired assistant general manager Longjam Nilamani, national award winning artisan A Lukhoi and social activist N Leibaklotpi also attended the convention as presidium members. (KNN Bureau)
