Doha: On August 27, 2022, the people of the Republic of Moldova celebrate the 31st anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Moldova. During these years, our state has experienced a series of domestic and international successes. At the beginning of its historical path/track, as a result of obtaining its Sovereignty and Independence, the Republic of Moldova had experienced an unprecedented openness of the international community, thus establishing diplomatic relations with the vast majority of the world's states.

It is important to notice that the European desideratum of Chishinau, which was ensured by the implementation of strategic decisions in different periods of time, such as obtaining special status in 2007, followed by the signing of the Association Agreement and the abolition of the visa regime in 2014, and the last but not least in 2022 obtaining the status of state candidate.
Regarding the country's successes in the economic field, they were fuelled by a series of strategic decisions, among them the implementation of the DCFTA (Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area), which was a catalyst for promotion the business environment and the attraction of foreign direct investments in the national economy.

This year the celebration of National Day of RM has a double significance as it also marks 25 years of diplomatic relations between our states, the agreement being signed on June 13, 1997.

A key factor in the development of multilateral relations between our states was certainly the inauguration of permanent diplomatic missions in Chisinau and Doha in 2013 and respectively 2014, which radically changed the content and dynamics of Moldovan-Qatari bilateral collaboration.

The positive dynamics in the Moldovan-Qatari bilateral relations are due in large part to the close cooperation established between the diplomatic missions in Doha and Chishinau. The ongoing contacts, exchange of information and mutual assistance provided over the years have contributed substantially to the organizing of official and working visits, as well as the conduct of cultural events in both countries. Among the latter we can mention the photo exhibition under the theme“The State of Qatar. In the past, present, and future”, displayed in the National Museum of Arts of Moldova, organized on the National Day of the State of Qatar (18th December 2020) by both Embassies with the support of the Cultural Village Foundation“Katara”, led by Dr. Professor Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, and Mr. Tudor Zbârnea, director of the National Museum of Art of Moldova.

Starting from the paradigm that culture is the most effective and certain way to get to know the peoples and countries, as well as to promote their mutual positive image, the diplomatic mission of Moldova, over the last three years, has organized in Qatar several large-scale events

Along with the close and prodigious cooperation in the field of culture, the links and collaboration in the field of education were established. The working visits of the Ministers of Education of the Republic of Moldova to Doha, as well as the signing of bilateral documents in this field, have contributed essentially to the proliferation of productive relations and collaboration. As a result, a group of young people from the Republic of Moldova are pursuing the bachelor and master's degree in Qatari universities at various specialties. At the same time, some citizens of the State of Qatar have also chosen for their studies the higher education institutions in Moldova. In this regard, we have a pleasant and happy example, when in the year 2021, a citizen of the State of Qatar successfully defended his PhD thesis in law, Abduljabbar Naif Jassim M.A.

The mutual opening of the diplomatic missions in Chishinau and Doha offered great possibilities in increasing bilateral cooperation in the economic and commercial field. After 2014, contacts between businessmen have increased considerably. Working visits to both countries of delegations and representations of the Ministries of Economy and Chambers of Commerce and Industry became more and more frequent.

Over the years, in order to promote investment opportunities among businessmen from the State of Qatar, the authorities of the Republic of Moldova and the embassy collaborators have maintained contacts and ensured the participation of representatives of Qatari companies in the most important commercial-investment events in the Republic of Moldova, such as various editions of the Moldova Trade Forum and others. As a result, 6 enterprises with Qatari founding money capital, specialized in various fields, especially import-export of goods, were founded in Moldova

It is important to note that a promising start in the field of commerce between our two countries is taking place, capitalizing the products with high export potential such as fresh fruits and vegetables, animal feed, bee products and others, which are reflected by an upward vector of the trade balance.

Looking at the 25 years that have passed since the signing of the first agreement on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the State of Qatar, we can firmly see that the multidimensional Moldovan-Qatari cooperation has registered an upward growth. Thanks to the official and working mutual visits of the officials, telephone conversations between heads of state, heads of governments, prodigious cooperation between ministries and agencies, as well as diplomatic missions accredited to Chișinău and Doha, visibility has increased, along with the a positive image of our countries among citizens.

A substantial boost to Moldovan-Qatari relations was provided by the official visit to the State of Qatar of the delegation from the Republic of Moldova, led by Mrs. Natalia Gavrilița, PM of the Republic of Moldova, between June 11-13, 2022, during which several historic successes were recorded for the bilateral relations like as signing of the intergovernmental agreement on the abolition of the visa regime for the citizens of both states, establishing the vector which will play a key role for continuous improvement of diplomatic relations as well as developing the cooperation potential between our states

It is important to highlight the festive inauguration at the“Katara” Cultural Center the sculpture entitled“Towards the Future”, which symbolizes the existing friendship between our countries and peoples, as well as the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two friendly states.

It is evident that the events and joint visits carried out during these years stimulate the desire among our peoples to know each other, to increase the number of tourist trips, to exchange information on culture, nature, traditions and our habits.

Celebrating these 25 years in our bilateral relations as a foundation, we look with confidence to the future, where the Moldovan-Qatari multilateral cooperation will encompass new dimensions, new horizons, and new achievements for the benefit of our states and peoples.
