QS Regional Director Meets With Qatar University Officials

Doha: President of Qatar University (QU) Dr. Hassan Al Derham has received QS Regional Director of the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia Dr. Ashwin Fernandez who visited Qatar University campus recently and met with a number of university officials and faculty members.
In June, QS Corporation, the world's leading provider of services, analysis and insights into the global higher education sector, revealed the results of its ranking of world universities for the year 2023, announcing that Qatar University ranked 208 globally, which is a significant improvement over the previous year. Jumping from 224 in the 2022 ranking, achieving an increase of 16 places over last year's version of the same classification.
Commenting on this accomplishment, QU President, Dr. Hassan Al Derham, said:“We are proud of Qatar University's impressive rise in the 2023 World University Rankings. It is wonderful to receive worldwide recognition for the university's persistent efforts to grow and create a global impact and an international research network.”
Dr. Ashwin Fernandes, Regional Director (Middle East, North Africa and South Asia) QS Quacquarelli Symonds, said during his visit to Qatar University“It comes as no surprise that Qatar University is on a continuous path of progress, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030. With its most recent ranking of 208 in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2023 edition, it has strengthened its position as a top research and academic institution from the Arab world, moving up more than 343 places in the previous eight years.”
“Since 2019, Qatar University has made 45% more development annually in the area of research impact as indicated by the number of citations per faculty,” Dr. Ashwin added.
The QS World University Rankings is compiled using six simple metrics. These six metrics include; Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Faculty/Student Ratio, Citations per faculty, International Faculty Ratio and International Student Ratio.
This year's results show a noticeable increase in the following indicators: employer reputation, citations per faculty and faculty student ratio.
