At least 8 people were killed and 18 others were injured in the IS-K-claimed fatal blast that took place on Friday in the Sar-e-Kariz area of Kabul, the Afghan capital, during a Muharram gathering of mourning Shia Afghans.

The Friday explosion occurred in a wheelbarrow among civilians in Kabul city's Police District 6, according to a tweet from the Taliban's senior spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid, which“martyred” 8 people and wounded another 18.

“Such actions are the work of those who detest our country, our religion, and who do not wish for its safety and happiness,” spokesperson Mujahid wrote.

ISIS reportedly declared in a statement that its attack in the west of Kabul resulted in the deaths and injuries of 20, according to Reuters.

A senior Taliban security official, who wished to remain unidentified, stated that the explosion killed or injured more than 50 people, including women and children.

The number of fatalities from the IS-K blast in western Kabul is reportedly seen as significant by local sources.

A fierce clash between the Taliban security forces and the ISIS group took place in a hidden house in Karta-e-Sakhi, west of Kabul, during the Muharram ceremonies on Wednesday.

It lasted for several hours and resulted in the deaths of ISIS members and the injuries of 4 Taliban policemen and a policewoman.

After the incident on Wednesday, the Afghan Shia Ulema Council issued a statement warning and urging all mourning groups to be extremely cautious of the“lurking” danger.
