Doha: During the Sixty-Third Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) that were convened from July 14 to 24, 2022, the state of Qatar won the presidency of International Union for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works (Berne Union) that belongs to WIPO.

WIPO member states had unanimously agreed to elect Ahmed Essa Al Sulaiti, Acting Director of the office of the State of Qatar to the World Trade Organization (WTO) as Chairman of the Committee of the Union for two years, with the election of Representatives from US and Finland as Chairman deputies.

The State of Qatar's presidency of this Union is emanating from the great attention Qatar pays to the intellectual property issues, as the members of the Berne Union placed their trust in the State of Qatar in recognition of the progress it has achieved in this strategic field.

The Executive Committee, in tandem with the Assembly of the Berne Union, oversees the implementation of the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works of 1886, which handles the protection of works and the rights of authors, and provides creators with the means to control their works under all circumstances.

WIPO is one of the oldest specialized agencies in the United Nations system, and one of the largest international organizations in Geneva.
