Sale Of Subsidised Sacrificial Sheep Begins Friday

(MENAFN- Gulf Times)

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), in co-operation with the Ministry of Municipality and Widam Food Company, announced the initiative of selling subsidised sacrificial animals for the year 1443 AH, which will begin on Friday and continue until July 13 (fourth day of Eid al-Adha).
The MoCI confirmed in a statement Tuesday that the initiative aims to control the market during the blessed Eid al-Adha period in order to achieve price stability, create a balance between supply and demand, stabilise the local market during certain seasons in which the demand increases, reduce any unjustified rise in red meat prices in such seasons, and provide basic commodities at an acceptable price for consumers.
The initiative prioritises the support of breeders and farm owners due to the ministry's keenness to increase local production to achieve self-sufficiency and attain food security.
It was agreed with Widam Food Company to provide local and imported sheep to be sold at subsidised and reduced prices to citizens according to specific weights and prices, which are: local sheep weighing 40kg and above at QR900, and imported sheep weighing 40kg and above at QR900.
Widam will provide the appropriate sheds and is committed not to sell any lean sheep or those that do not conform to the specifications and conditions of the law with regard to sacrifice, or do not conform to the weights and sizes agreed upon with the ministry.
The sale of sacrifices will take place at Widam slaughterhouses in Al Shamal, Al Khor, Umm Salal, Al Sheehaniya, Al Wakra and Abu Nakhla, and the sale will be open to citizens only, at the rate of one head of live sheep.
The ministry confirmed that it will intensify its inspection campaigns to ensure compliance and the integrity of procedures for the implementation, urging all consumers to report any violations through the call centre: 16001; e-mail: [email protected] ; Twitter: @MOCIQATAR; and Instagram: MOCIQATAR.
